In 1995, I accepted a staff writer position at The State newspaper in Columbia where I'd been stringing as a feature writer/photographer between acting jobs. A year and a half later, I was the weekend editor of The State's online product, thestate.com. That led to a job offer from an advertising agency in 1997 where I worked for the next couple of years as a writer and designer. When I left the agency in 1999, I had two things I'd never had before: A mortgage and just enough freelance design work to pay said mortgage.
Life was good, but theatrically unsatisfying. Then, in 2003, I realized that notebook computers, cell phones and email had made it possible for me to accept out-of-town performance contracts for the first time since 1995. Technology had set me free.
Extraterrestrial fundraiserThe 2010 Centre Stage fundraiser's UFO-themed promotional materials and tickets. This theme was pitched last year, but rejected for reasons that were never made completely clear to me.
Rock 'n Roll Heaven Once a year, Centre Stage produces a rock 'n roll concert. This year's is themed "Rock 'n Roll Heaven." I shot these with a two-light setup, then worked the photos to achieve a graphic novel illustration effect. The posters will serve as the basis for a major marketing push.
